Guidelines for Residential Occupants with Do's and Don'ts during the Fire Emergencies in your building
The building materials should be non-combustible type.
Sufficient space around the perimeter of the building for easy access and maneuverability of Fire Service Vehicles shall be maintained.
All doors, window and compartments shall be of Fire Resistant type as per scale of “National Building Code”.
Furniture, decorative item shall be of non-combustible type as far as possible.
Switch off power appliances while they are not in use or at the time of power failure.
Ovens and stoves should not be filled with fuel when they are burning. Never over pump a pressure stove as it may burst. A wickstove is safer than a pressure stove. Never fill kerosene when the stove is lit. Always put out the flames first and allow the stove to cool. Check joints for fuel leakage and have the leaks attended to immediately. Store your kerosene away from the stove.
Do not ignite a match-stick or put on electric switch when you smell leaking gas in the room.
Examine electrical and LPG equipment to remove any defect. Provide appropriate fuse wire to the electric circuit, inform your LPG distributor even when a minor defect or leakage is suspected.
Don’t store LPG cylinders in basement or in dwelling rooms.
Don’t open LPG valve until you are ready to ignite the gas.
Extinguish any unattended fire immediately.
Keep no flame burning a you retire to bed.
Never, never smoke in bed or anywhere else when you are sleepy. It takes only a few minutes from the moment a cigarette is dropped on a pillow or mattress for the whole bedroom to go up in flames. Do not smoke while reclining or lying bed.
Keep fire or it sources away from children. Don’t allow children to play with matches. Educate children on fire hazards and how to prevent them.
Don’t wear loose and synthetic garments while handling fire. Don’t lean over fire.
Don’t forget to obtain valuable advice from Fire Department for your safety against fire.
Inform Fire Brigade either 101 or specific telephone No. of local Fire Station and be assumed that the information received by the Fire Brigade by the local Fire Brigade for Kolkata and Suburbs.
